The famous American comedian and tv host Jay Leno’s historic house in Newport. In fact, beyond saying house, Leno’s house is almost a castle.

This mansion, known as the Seafair, was built in 1936 and is located at 254 Ocean Ave, Newport, Rhode Island, New England.

The Seafair residence was designed by James Mackenzie Jr., an architect who also worked on the Statue of Liberty renovation project in the 1940s for Vernor Zevola Reed Jr., a banker, and heir to a mining fortune.

After finishing The Tonight Show in 2014, Jay Leno is enjoying retirement. The rich comedian owns hundreds of cars and hundreds of motorcycles, which are housed in a huge garage in Burbank.

He lives in just one of the castle-like structures you see on a tour of this property.

This house has unique features. The main house has 15,851 square feet of indoor living space on a 9-acre plot of land, 1 grand hall, 12 bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, a chef’s kitchen, a 6-car garage, a tennis court, and large gardens. It also has a pool and a private bay with a great view. There is another residence for guests that has 3 rooms.

Resembling a 1936 castle, this mansion has a 270-degree view of the North Atlantic Ocean. The house has a private bay and beach, and it can accommodate boats and yachts. After it was built, it underwent several interior and exterior renovations, including some modern updates like a carriage house, chef’s kitchen, terraces, tennis court, and pool together with a spa.

While Jay Leno and his wife Mavis Leno do not live here permanently, they do live here as they come to the east coast. Listed for $19 million in 2016, the house was purchased by Leno from former Nortek CEO Richard Bready in 2017 for $13.5 million. Jay Leno said that they bought the house accidentally. Evi explained that his wife noticed and immediately bought it.

Leno described the acquisition of the Newport Seafair estate to Michelle Hofmann of Forbes:

"No, I wasn't planning on moving back east. I was with my wife, visiting family in Newport in October 2017. We were driving around Ocean Avenue, which is kind of like 17-Mile Drive, a scenic road through Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove in California. Ocean Avenue is a fancy place. I had my cousin with me and we were driving along and Mavis said, 'Look at that house. Look at that house. It is unbelievable.' And I said, 'You're right. It is unbelievable. It looks like a castle.' So, I said to Mavis, 'Do you want that house? Let's see if it's for sale.' I turned the car around to go back to the house. Just as we drove by, the gate opened and the gardener came out. We all looked at each other and said, 'The gate is opening. It's a sign.'

So, I drove in and rang the bell. The caretaker answered and said, 'You're Jay Leno. Jay Leno!' Then I said, 'Hey, it's nice to meet you. Is this house for sale?' And the caretaker said the house was for sale but not listed currently. I asked if we could look around, and the guy gives me a tour. Then, I asked him to get the owner on the phone. So, we get the owner on the phone, and I said, 'Will you sell the house as-is, with everything, all the furniture, the ketchup in the refrigerator, the salt shakers and just walk away?' And he said, 'Yeah, I'll walk away.' We agreed on a price, and I bought it. We closed in 30 days.”	

The Leno couple spends most of their time at their mansion in Beverly Hills, in the western United States.
